CONSIDER COMPOST
While you can always use the trash bin to get rid of waste, starting a compost bin is a greener way to dispose of your garbage. This bin is specifically reserved for food waste and scraps that are biodegradable, which includes used tea bags. Once the bin is full, you can empty it into a garden compost. If you don’t have a garden of your own, see if any of your neighbors do who would like some extra compost to help their plants thrive. You might be repaid for your kindness in the form of fresh fruits, vegetables or plants.
RECYCLE
You’re more than likely already aware of the many benefits of recycling, but they most certainly bear repeating. One thing of which you might not be aware is the fact that more than 70 percent of all waste can be recycled, which includes the food waste mentioned in the compost above. Specific waste products that can be recycled include paper, plastic, batteries, electronics and even pesticides. Depending on where you live, there might already be a recycling program in place. If there isn’t, see what steps need to be taken to start one.
WORM BIN
If you don’t like the idea of having to wait around for your compost to break down, consider starting a worm bin instead. This particular method of getting rid of garbage works much like a standard compost bin, but worms eat the waste and break it all down faster. Building your bin is easy, and getting red worms is just as simple. Just make sure your worm bin remains between 55 and 77 degrees for the best results.
